Tenants and Users Liability Insurance Policy

The Division of Risk Management now has available a Tenants and Users Liability Insurance Policy.  A policy purchased through this program will allow groups and individuals to use University facilities and premises for specific activities without the University incurring undue liability risks.  The policy will protect both the facility user and the University of Illinois against claims by third parties who may be injured as a result of participating in an event.  This program is intended solely for external users of campus facilities, and is not intended to provide coverage for activities directly related to the operation of the University. This program is not intended to be an exclusive source of liability insurance coverage for users of University facilities.  Insurance coverage for approved events may be purchased from any insurance carrier meeting the standards previously established by the Division of Risk Management.  These standards may be reviewed at on the Certificates of Insurance page. Groups or individuals desiring to use University of Illinois facilities and premises must first receive approval from the Office of Facility Management and Scheduling (http://www.fms.uiuc.edu/) or from the campus unit whose property or facility you wish to use.  Once conditional approval is granted for use of the desired facilities, the group or individual must show evidence of liability insurance in the amount of $1,000,000.  This program is designed to facilitate the purchase of this coverage, and to lessen the cost of acquiring an appropriate policy.  The cost and availability of liability insurance under this program is based on several factors, including the nature of the event, the duration of the event and the anticipated number of participants.  To determine the availability and cost of insurance available through this program, go to http://urmia.bene-marc.com.  Enter the pass code 30341802.  After accessing the site, provide all of the requested information.  In many cases, approval for the policy will be automatic and immediate.  In these instances, the cost will be displayed and payment via a credit card requested.  In those cases where additional information or underwriting consideration is required, review of the information by an insurance underwriter will be required.  This process may take up to ten business days to complete.  You will be notified directly by a representative of Bene-Marc when a decision has been made. Payment is the sole responsibility of the group or individual purchasing the insurance policy.  A notice will be sent directly to the Office of Facility Management and Scheduling and the Risk Manager when the policy is approved, paid for, and issued.
