Our thoughts and support are with our counterparts at Northern Illinois University Police Department in addition to the entire NIU community.

Although we invest much in training and preparing to respond to these tragic and infrequent threats, such an event at one of our sister state institutions and the tie to our campus is very troublesome.

Since the onset of the incident at NIU, we have continually monitored the situation to evaluate any potential threats to our campus. We will continue to monitor our various intelligence networks in the interest of campus safety.

We continue to assist the DeKalb Police Department in their investigative efforts.

As a matter of practice, we encourage our community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or disturbing behavior to the proper authorities.

Additionally, we encourage members of our faculty, staff and student body to enroll in the Emergency Notification System at
UIemergency.
